Q1. What do you think is the most important factor in making high-end events memorable?
The most important factor for events is impact - which can happen in several different ways, but to name a few: a cause, attendee engagement, and a WOW moment. These things make it ensure that an attendee leaves the event feeling inspired, informated, or just having an unforgettable experience.
Q2. How do you select vendors that align with your vision for a high-end event?
While we tend to stick with our favorites, we also take into consideration vendors that will add to the creative planning or execution of the event. While it's often gauged by a client's budget, more often than not, it's all about the return. Some vendors are a little more cookie cutter and can get "big picture" of the event, but miss the need for impact. Other vendors are willing to get their hands dirty and engage in the process to ensure that their deliverables capture the vision of our team and the clients.
Q3. What role does photography play in the overall design and experience of a luxury event?
Photography plays a huge role in an event, as the photos are usually all we have to remember the event! How well the event is captured matters because it pulls it all together. Did the branding look good? Did the colors align? Is it picture perfect? Thoughtful captures of the guests and special guests are important to commemorate the experience and even the impact of the event. Were guests engaged? Did they cry? Was there a special moment captured between two people? Who was in the room?
Q4. Can you share a standout moment from a recent luxury event that was made even more special by the photography?
At a recent event in December for an LGBTQ+ Leadership Conference, there were so many highlights and unplanned programming that if there wasn't a photographer there to capture it, you wouldn't believe it happened or be able to reflect on that moment later. In light of the results of the election, this group filled the space with a lot of expression and emotions, while charging the space with dedication and purpose. As I looked through those photos, I could still understand those moments through the photos and to me that's always a success.
Q5. What is your process for ensuring seamless communication with your photographer before, during, and after an event?
Well you know we're awful at it :) JK but I try my best to provide as much information as possible, from timing, location, and the shot lists. If it's necessary to share the background of the client or the event to ensure proper coverage, I'm always willing to do that as well.

Q6. How do you work with photographers to ensure they capture all the key details and moments?
Ahead of the event, if it's someone I haven't worked with before, I like to schedule a brief call with them to lay out the schedule of the event. This usually can give an idea of where they should be and when, and also what part of programming is important to capture. It's also a good time to review the shot list and share a lookbook if possible. Onsite I like to give them a lay of the land and connect via text in case there's an immediate request from the client.
Q7. How do you ensure that the photographer’s work aligns with the overall aesthetic and theme of the event?
Typically, I prefer to work with someone who captures the liveliness of events, the colors, the interactions, ect. Sometimes there's a difference when someone understands truly capturing the moment vs just taking the picture.
Q8. Can you share any advice on creating unique moments during a luxury event that make for great photographs?
Honestly, unique moments come from guests' engagement, which is encouraged by activations, heartfelt/throughout programming, and the look and feel of the event. It's interesting to see how decor plays a part in the emery of an event. Either making guests excited to be there or being just another space.
Q9. What advice would you give to photographers looking to work with high-end clients or planners on luxury events?
What really matters is how you capture the event and the event details. These photos are the archive of the experience and when looking back, I hope to feel like I'm there and be inspired for the next one. Don't be afraid to get the shot. A lot of clients will provide their shot list of desired shots, but trust your instinct. Also don't be afraid to capture the close-up. Many of my clients use these photos for promotional materials of their featured speakers, so having a great close shot is always beneficial, even if you'll be in the way for just a second to capture it.
Q10. How do you envision the role of photography in preserving the legacy and memories of an event?
It plays a major roll! There are so many events that I've produced that either contracted their photographer on their own or decided to save on costs and get someone in-house to capture a few shots and it's unfortunate because those usually are the events with the least amount of footprint. There's nothing to look back on, especially for the details of the event. As a producer, sometimes it's important to see what the tablescape looked like or the color of the chairs on the stage. Aside from production, it's promotional material for the clients, something to share post-event, but also to encourage new attendees in the next year.
