Earlier this month, I had the incredible honor of being commissioned by the Office of Tourism for Spain to visually document their three-part celebration for World Pride 2025 in Washington, DC. This commission was more than just a job—it was an invitation to witness and capture the bold, inclusive spirit that Spain is bringing to its official candidacy to host World Pride 2030 in Barcelona.
Each event was bursting with energy, pride, and purpose, showcasing the cultural richness, vibrancy, and deep-rooted values of diversity and acceptance that Spain hopes to bring to the global stage.
Event 1: A Vision for 2030 at the Spanish Cultural Center
Held in what was once the historic Embassy of Spain, now transformed into a stunning cultural hub, the opening event was both elegant and empowering. The room buzzed with anticipation as the Tourism Office presented Spain’s formal bid to host World Pride 2030 in Barcelona. With compelling visuals, heartfelt speeches, and a sense of global unity, this moment was a declaration of Spain’s unwavering commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. Being in that space—documenting faces lit with pride and hope—was a beautiful reminder of the power of storytelling and visibility.
Event 2: Pride Parade – A Moving Party on Wheels
Day two brought an entirely different kind of magic: the DC Pride Parade. Spain made its presence unforgettable with a fully wrapped, eye-catching bus that cruised the route with a DJ spinning live, energizing the crowd. Dancers, staff, and volunteers passed out vibrant materials, fanned joy through the streets, and invited thousands to learn more about Spain's inclusive travel offerings and their vision for Barcelona 2030. The entire experience felt like one big love letter to freedom, celebration, and belonging.
Event 3: World Pride Festival – Community, Culture & Celebration
Closing out the series was the World Pride Festival itself. Spain’s booth was a hub of activity and joy, featuring cultural handouts, information about LGBTQ+ travel to Spain, and an irresistible photo opportunity with a glamorous drag queen who radiated charm and style. The engagement was genuine—people weren’t just stopping by for a photo; they were connecting with the culture, asking questions, and getting excited about what World Pride 2030 in Barcelona could be.
Final Reflections
As a photographer, these events are the kind of soul-filling assignments that remind me why I do what I do. Each frame was more than just an image—it was a moment of pride, identity, and purpose, wrapped in color, culture, and connection. I’m deeply grateful to the Office of Tourism for Spain for trusting me with this important work.
