From the Welcome Reception to Washingtonian Magazine: A March Full-Circle Moment

Some months in this journey as a photographer remind me exactly why I picked up the camera in the first place — to witness, to document, and to celebrate the energy of meaningful moments. March was one of those full-circle months that left me deeply grateful and creatively inspired.
I kicked off the month by photographing the “Welcome to Washington” Reception hosted by Washingtonian Magazine with Fiola DC as the stunning backdrop. The event was held to honor and celebrate new influential figures who recently joined Congress and Capital Hill — a brilliant mix of politics, media, business, and culture, all under one roof. It was a beautiful gathering full of charisma, polished conversations, and genuine connection. From tight embraces to raised glasses, the room radiated warmth and possibility — and I was there to document it all.

But the real surprise came shortly after.
Out of the blue, I found out that my images from another event — the Army-Navy Tailgate Bash I photographed back in December — were published in the February issue of Washingtonian Magazine. The images captured the electric spirit of game day, the camaraderie, the tradition, and the sheer joy that filled the air that weekend. Seeing those photos in print, celebrated in a publication I respect so deeply, felt like a quiet nod from the universe: Keep going, you’re on the right track.
To have not one but two major touchpoints with Washingtonian in the same month — one event captured in real time, another showcased in print — reminded me that this work has a lasting impact. It’s not just about capturing a single moment; it’s about preserving a legacy, a feeling, a story.
Whether it’s an exclusive reception, a high-energy tailgate, or something in between — these events deserve to be documented with intention and artistry. And I’m honored every time I’m chosen to do just that.
