A Fall Family Session, Five Years in the Making

There’s something incredibly special about photographing a family more than once—especially when years have passed and life has unfolded in beautiful ways. This fall, I had the privilege of reconnecting with a family I first photographed five years ago, and capturing their story again felt like opening a new chapter in a book I already loved.
As a photographer, you get to witness so much more than poses and smiles. You see growth. You see personality. You see how families evolve, bond, and blossom over time. And moments like these remind me why I love what I do.
A Return to Fall Magic
We met on a warm, golden fall afternoon—exactly the kind of light that makes the season feel like a soft embrace. The leaves were showing off (as they do this time of year), and the setting couldn’t have been more perfect for an updated family session.
The kids had grown, the dynamics had shifted in beautiful ways, and everyone was excited to create new memories. What I love most about photographing families over the years is how comfortable they become. There’s a level of trust, familiarity, and nostalgia that naturally shows up in the images.
Looking Back: 5 Years Ago
As I prepared for this session, I pulled up the photos from our session five years ago—and wow. Seeing those earlier moments side by side with the new ones is such a gift. It’s a reminder of how quickly time moves and how important it is to pause and capture your family “as they are” in this season.
The kids were smaller. The laughs were a little different. The energy had its own charm. And now? They’ve grown into their personalities even more—confident, expressive, and full of life.
Why Repeat Sessions Matter
Family photos aren’t just pictures—They’re markers of time. They’re pieces of your story. They’re tangible reminders of seasons you won’t get back.
Booking a family session every few years (or every year!) allows you to document milestones in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. It’s not about creating perfect images—it’s about capturing the real moments that define your family’s journey.
For this beautiful family, it was an honor to document both chapters. And I hope these new images become memories they’ll treasure for years to come.
